About Implants

Nowadays, dental implants have become an important and main part in the field of restoration of lost teeth. Regarding damage repair, replacing a lost tooth has been considered a main problem for a long time.
Currently, implant treatment is considered as one of the most reliable and best treatment methods and its popularity is increasing rapidly .
Previously, implants were not as popular as they are today. Going back to 15 years ago, you can see that dental implants were not routinely offered as a treatment method in most medical centers and only were used in very limited and rare leading centers in this field but today implant treatment is considered the most reliable and the best method to replace a tooth. Although the use of dental implants has now attracted attention in educational centers, there are still a large number of people who have misconceptions about this treatment method. Many patients are afraid of using implants and sometimes even refuse to repair and replace their teeth.
The other problem in the field of using implants as a suitable restorative method is doctors who are not updated. There are many dentists who have passed the necessary training courses many years ago, but have not updated themselves for any reason. This group of dentists may not have a good understanding and vision of using dental implants or if they have, they may not be able to do it.
As a result, although the popularity of using dental implants has grown a lot in recent years, many people avoid it due to misconceptions or lack of doctors’ adequate experience to perform this treatment method.

Different parts of dental implants
Fixture

This part is surgically placed inside the bone under the gum, although in some older models, this section is not placed inside the bone. There are some types of implants that are one-piece as the fixture and abutment parts are fused to each other.

Cover screw

This part is used in a two-stage surgery. This piece is placed inside the implant and actually covers the open surface of it and the gum tissue will be placed on the cover screw.

Healing abutment or cuff

Healing abutment is usually placed on the implant through a second surgical step. This part of the implant will be visible after the initial work is completed because it is slightly emerged from the soft tissue. Healing abutments may have different colors that indicate their different sizes.

Impression coping

After the healing abutment or healing cuff is removed, this piece is placed to have an impression or copy of exact shape and location of the implants and adjacent tissues and structures. Impression coping is used in two ways: open tray and closed tray, and it has different sizes.
